Frequently Asked Questions
Dried flower information
How do I care for my dried flowers?
Humidity, direct sunlight and high temperatures are what cause the colours in dried flowers to fade fastest, so avoid displaying them in places such as bathrooms, kitchens, conservatories, next to heat sources and in sunny windows. Dried flowers are fragile so please handle them carefully - it’s possible that small bits may come loose if they’re handled frequently. If you need to clean dust off your dried flowers, you can use a hair dryer set on cool and at the lowest air speed to blow the dust away - try to handle the flowers as little as possible while doing this.
How long will my dried flowers last?
The length of time the colour in a dried flower will last depends on what type of flower it is and how it is cared for (see advice above). The colour of some dried flowers last for many years (including papery flowers like helichrysum and statice) while others fade more quickly, their muted tones giving them a lovely vintage appearance. Dried flowers won’t crumble to bits unless roughly handled and will stay intact for years.
How do I clean my dried flowers?
To clean your dried flowers, take them outside on a dry, still day. If you can turn them upside down without the design coming apart, you can give them a gentle shake to loosen any dust. Or, set a hair dryer to cool on the lowest setting and direct the air over the design to gently blow off the dust (this is best done outside too). Clean them as often as you think is needed.
Do you treat your dried flowers with any chemicals?
No, all of the flowers I grow for drying are grown without chemicals. They’re dried naturally and I never use dyes, bleaches, perfumes or other chemicals before, during or after the drying process. When I need to buy in flowers, I buy them from growers who also don’t use any chemical treatments.
Placing orders
How do I place an order on your website?
Go to the shop listing if the item you’d like to purchase. If it has options to choose from, select your choice from the drop-down menu below the listing. If available, choose the number of items you’d like to add to your cart. Finally, click the ‘add to cart’ button. If you’re purchasing multiple bespoke items in different colours (such as mini wreaths or bouquets), you will need to separately add the desired number for each colour you want to the cart. When you’re ready to check out, click the shopping bag in the upper right corner of the screen.
How do I request a design that’s not in your shop or hire you for a commission?
Please contact me by email shanna@harebellandbee.co.uk or by using the contact form so we can discuss your dried flower plans.
