About Harebell & Bee

Welcome

Hi, I’m Shanna, the flower grower, floral designer and wildlife cheerleader behind Harebell & Bee. I was fortunate to have a deep appreciation for nature instilled in me by my parents who raised our family in the Pennsylvania countryside and took us on camping holidays to wild locations throughout my childhood. This deep love for the natural world has stayed with me through adulthood, shaping the way I approach gardening and flower growing today.

While I was working as a veterinary technician in my 20s, I found myself becoming more and more in love with the pastimes of gardening and flower arranging - they were the perfect ways to unwind from a busy day at work. I used flowers that I gathered from my parents’ garden to make wild vase arrangements, taking my designs to the office for my workmates to enjoy. It was then I began dreaming of one day having a floral design business supplied by my own flower garden.

I eventually left the field of animal medicine and went on to study garden history, botany and ecology, moving to the UK for graduate studies. It was here I met my partner and in 2018 we settled in the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, taking on a neglected garden that I’ve been nurturing as a wildlife haven surrounding my cut flower patch.

These days I specialise in dried florals, growing as much as I can fit in my plot and drying the summer bounty of flowers, grasses and seed heads in my studio. I love creating designs that celebrate the stunning natural colours that can be found in dried flowers, and it brings me so much joy to be able to work with beautiful, natural everlasting flowers that I’ve grown and dried myself.

Looking after the earth is as important to me as growing gorgeous flowers. I started Harebell & Bee in 2019 because I wanted to bring a little floral beauty into the lives of others through sustainably-grown flowers and earth-friendly floristry techniques - you can read more about my sustainable business practices here.
